Bulk Taco Seasoning Recipe

Mix the following in a medium bowl and pour/scoop into a mason jar with an airtight lid. (This makes about 3 cups.)

  • Chili Powder 3 cups + 6T | 15oz
  • Cumin 6T | 3oz
  • Garlic Powder 6tsp | 1oz
  • Dried Onion Powder 6tsp | 1oz
  • Dried Oregano 6tsp | 1oz
  • Ground Paprika 3T | 1.5oz
  • Ground Pepper 3T | 1.5oz
  • Salt 3T | 1.5oz

Some variations:

  • Try using smoked paprika. It adds an interesting depth of flavor that we love.
  • You can adjust the heat for your family by changing up the type of chili powder or adding chili flakes etc.
  • Try some different salts…like a smoked salt, Alder salt, or Sriracha salt.
  • If you always have onions on hand and begin most of your cooking by sauteing an onion, you can skip the dried onion in this recipe.

If you’re inclined to support small businesses who carry interesting & flavorful paprika, chili and salt varieties, here are a few online spice purveyors who we’ve tried & loved: Gneiss Spice, Calicutts Spice Co. , the Herb Shop (also at Lancaster Central Market).

If you want to make multiple batches to share or gift some homemade bulk taco seasoning, this batch fits well into the 24oz Ball Widemouth Jar, or if you’re going for a different look, these other 24oz jars might fit the bill.

Can you confirm the amount of chili powder in the Bulk Taco Seasoning Recipe? It’s using 3 cups+6 Tbsp. and this is stated to be 15 oz. Three cups would be 24 oz. and 6 Tbsp. would another 3 oz. for a total of 27 oz.
Just want to make this correctly.

    Thanks.
