Celebrating 135 years of Ball history

Ball 135thIn 1884, nearly 135 years ago, the Ball brothers began manufacturing glass Mason jars out of their factory in Buffalo, New York. Soon after, in 1887, they moved their operations to Muncie, Indiana to be close to an abundant natural gas supply. These jars, used for home canning and preserving, made Ball a household name across the country. As they were back then, all Ball jars, lids, and bands are still proudly made in the USA.

Aqua Vintage - Pint Jar

Aqua Vintage Canning Jars, Ball Collector’s Edition – Pint (16 oz).

Fun Fact about “Ball Blue”

Near the turn of the 20th century, the famous “Ball® Blue” color was created when the minerals in the sand used to make the jars resulted in an unexpected aqua color. These aqua jars were beautiful and quickly became popular for preserving and storing jams, jellies, and other recipes. Today, with the NEW Limited Edition Aqua Vintage jars, you can re-live history with a vintage design, color, and logo from a bygone era. Read more about Ball’s history here.

I love the blue jars. I have a few of the antique ones that I still use. I use my jars for storing beans and grains mostly, but I’ve held antique marbles and buttons in them in the past too. Then of course there are my pickles, peppers and dilly beans too. They are very handy indeed.

Thank you for a fun giveaway chance. These are beautiful. I use jars for everything around the house- water glasses, vases, spices, dry goods, art supplies, toothbrushes, and of course lots and lots of canning. These are almost too pretty to hide away on a shelf in the pantry, so whatever they get used for would have to be on display somewhere.

I have also signed up for canning classes but when I’m trying to enter your contest for Blue Ball jars, you keep saying you don’t recognize me or my email address. I am rather frustrated. I am not on Facebook, never have been. It has never been as issue before. What do you suggest I do?? I DO NOT wish to unsubscribe. But would sure like to be recognized as a loyal Fillmore ContaIner email recipient, and be able to join the contest which is apparently over in 82 minutes. HELP!!!!!

I have an original Ball jar, that was my grandmothers, with the spring clap lid dated 1908. I also have their bicentennial issue 1776-1976 top spring lids. These as well as the 1913-1915 reissues in the aqua, green and purple. I use all my jars everyday. I can’t wait to purchase the new issue to continue my set. I would really like to see the clamp lids come back.
Thank you from three generations for the BEST product that proves great design is timeless.
