PA Farm Show 2016 Schedule

We are so excited to tell you about our plans for the 2016 Pennsylvania Farm Show! Last year was such a great success, and we were pleased to see so many of you come visit us!

This year the PA Farm Show is celebrating 100 years! We have some great presenters joining us again. You can expect helpful demonstrations about water bath canning, fermenting, and pressure canning. In addition to demos at our Preservation Station, many of our presenters will also be presenting at the Family Living Stage.

Fillmore Container’s PA Farm Show Schedule

Saturday, January 9

Lisa Reinhart, of Fillmore Container, will be talking all about pear preserves on Saturday 1/9. Stop by the booth for demos of Pear Vanilla Jam (from Food in Jars), Pear Ginger Jam (from Preserving with Pomona’s Pectin), Pear Pineapple Marmalade (from The Joy of Jams, Jellies and other Sweet Preserves).

Sunday, January 10

On Sunday Lisa Reinhart, of Fillmore Container, will start of with a demo of Pear Cranberry Jam (from Preserving with Pomona’s Pectin). Throughout the rest of the day Lisa’s demos will explore other unique preserves including Mulled Cider (from Food in Jars), and Lavender Jelly (from Preserving with Pomona’s Pectin). A big thanks to Hope Hill Lavender Farm for providing culinary lavender buds for our Lavender Jelly demo.  We were so excited to find a local PA Preferred lavender source, we had to share it with you too.

Monday, January 11

Marisa McClellan, a food writer, canning teacher, and dedicated farmers market shopper who lives in Center City Philadelphia, is joining us at the PA Farm Show, January 11 & 12. Marisa is the author of Food in Jars: Preserving in Small Batches Year-Round and Preserving by the Pint: Quick Seasonal Canning for Small Spaces. She will share a conserve, mostrada, and jam recipe.

Tuesday, January 12

Marisa will join us again on Tuesday to continue to talk about basic water bath canning tips and how to reduce the use of sugar by using other sweeteners. Marisa’s third book, called Naturally Sweet Food in Jars, will be published on March 22, 2016. It features 100 recipes sweetened with honey, maple, agave, coconut sugar, dried fruits, and fruit juice concentrates. Lisa Reinhart will close the day by making some Caramelized Red Onion Relish from Marisa’s first book, Food in Jars.

January 13

Pressure Canning

Richard Kralj, M.Ed, RDN, LDN a Food Safety & Quality-Senior Extension Educator with Penn State Cooperative Extension will teach the basics of pressure canning, including meats. See his main stage demo on 1/13 at 1oam.

Fermentation

Amanda Feifer is the fermentation educator behind the blog Phickle.com and book Ferment Your Vegetables. She teaches classes on topics ranging from hot sauce and miso to sauerkraut and kombucha. Her demos at the PA Farm Show will explore popular fermentation topics including, kefir, kombucha, pickling and more.

January 14

Amanda Feifer, the fermentation educator and author of Ferment Your Vegetables, will kick off the day at the Family Living Main Stage. Amanda will continue fermentation demos throughout the day at Fillmore Container’s booth. Lisa Reinhart will close out the day with Apple Maple Jam from Preserving with Pomona’s Pectin.

January 15

Join Lisa Reinhart, of Fillmore Container, for some crockpot preserves including, Apple Butter and Pear Butter.

January 16

Our last two demos of the show will be Rosemary Apple Jam and Pear Vanilla Jam from Food in Jars. Stop by our both in the morning, to catch these demos.

    I have made sauerkraut for years, but want to learn to ferment more veggies!
